Over the span of the last eight games for the Annville-Cleona Dutchmen baseball team, they have accumulated a record of 8-0. Before those eight games, to start the season off, they had a record of 5-3. In total for the season, they contain an overall record of 13-3.

As the Dutchmen look to continue their streak, they are also looking for a first round bye in District III Playoffs. Currently, the Dutchmen sit at the number four spot in the AAA School power rankings, just behind the Lancaster Catholic Crusaders (13-4) by .001256 of a power ranking point.

Not only is the win streak impressive on its own, but it contained multiple intense jaw dropping moments ranging from a 10th inning win versus ELCO to senior Mitch Long stealing home versus Cocalico for a 4-3 victory. One thing to pay attention to is how great Annvilles defense has been and the minimal amount of errors they have had.

It all started out with a 9-4 home field victory versus the Northern Lebanon Vikings where the Dutchmen gave up just two errors. Next in line were the Lebanon Cedars as the Dutchmen came home with a 12-0 victory, no errors, and just one hit allowed.

On April 21st the Dutchmen took on the ELCO Raiders at home into 10 innings of play. AC came away with a 2-1 victory in extra innings with just one error. After losing to Pequea Valley the first time these two teams met (PV: 8 ; AC: 7), the Dutchmen knew what they had to do to come away with the victory this time around and gathered a 4-1 win with 0 errors once again. A 4-2 victory at Manheim Central with five errors (the second most they’ve had all season) made the game close than it probably would have been.

Up next were the Lancaster Catholic Crusaders for the second matchup of the season. The first game ended brutally for the Dutchmen as the Crusaders came away with a 12-2 victory.

“We knew what we had to do, we knew that (Dillon) Marsh was going to be pitching against us, and we knew we wanted our win streak to continue,” explained Long.

This time around was different as the Dutchmen won 2-1 with just one error and Salvatore Biondollo got the win on the mound for A-C.

“This game was different than the last because of our defense. Last time we played them we had six errors, this time we had just one error. I’m proud of my team for what we have been accomplishing and I am hoping for more great things from my teammates and I in the rest of the season,” said Long.

And the season continues to look promising for the guys as they have gotten two more big wins since then, one against Cocalico (CC: 3 ; AC: 4) and one against Lancaster Mennonite (LMHS: 2 ; AC: 3) in a night game.

Annville-Cleona baseball was recently ranked second to the ELCO Raiders in Gametime PA’s Lebanon County baseball power rankings, but by the way things have been going, it sure looks like the Dutchmen are making a statement that they should be in that top spot.

Their next game will be against Columbia on May 5th at 4:15 p.m. Previously, Annville beat Columbia 7-0 at Columbia.
